Legacy Music reimagined :
Inger Lise Rypdal

Few voices have shaped Norwegian pop like Inger Lise Rypdal, and this week, her music was brought into a striking new dimension. At a special Dolby Atmos preview session held at Gateway Studios, Rypdal listened to immersive remasters of four of her most iconic tracks — Fru Johnsen, Romeo og Julie, Voodoo, and Tider Kommer, Tider Går — newly mixed in spatial audio by engineer Javed Kurd.

The project was led by Indie Music Rights (IMR), who hold the master rights and are actively working to revitalize their back catalog with cutting-edge pr formats like Dolby Atmos. But beyond the technical achievement, the remastering honors the emotional resonance and cultural impact of these recordings.

As streaming platforms like Apple Music and TIDAL now reward premium audio formats with significantly higher payments, immersive remastering isn’t just a creative update — it ensures music from earlier eras can continue to thrive in today’s digital economy and access higher income streams.

A representative from Gateway Studios, one of Norway’s few certified Dolby Atmos facilities, noted: “We see Atmos as a way to future-proof music. It gives classic recordings new breath, and artists a new reason to reconnect with their work.”

Present at the session were Arve Sigvaldsen, founder of Talent Musikk and longtime producer of Rypdal’s hits, and Viggo Valle, iconic NRK radio voice from “Påskelabyrinten,” now creating a podcast series on the legacy of Norwegian music and artists through the lens of Talent Musikk.

The session underscored how meaningful partnerships — between artist, producer, studio, and rights holder — can bring new relevance to historical recordings. It also demonstrated IMR’s commitment to giving music rights a longer, more vibrant life.

As more legacy artists consider reintroducing their catalog to a new generation of listeners, projects like this set a powerful example of how heritage and innovation can coexist beautifully.
