Indie Mujsic Rights acquires finnish group Elokuu’s music catalog
Indie Music Rights, an emerging player in music rights acquisition, is proud to announce its expansion into Finland through the acquisition of Mitäpitää Music Oy's catalog, including the celebrated albums Hääväki Saapuu (2012) and Pöytä On Katettu (2013) by the Finnish band Elokuu. This acquisition is part of Indie music rights LTD's ongoing mission to unlock the potential of non-English music catalogs.
This strategic move not only enhances Indie music right’s portfolio but also represents
a stable, high-growth investment opportunity for stakeholders. Music rights, much like real estate, offer predictable revenue streams, complemented by fewer management complexities and higher yields. Indie music rights’ proven business model capitalizes on the demand for independent music, providing diversified, recurring revenue from royalties, sync licensing, and new digital opportunities.
“What sets us apart is our strategic focus on overlooked catalogs,
the possibility of co-ownership and the use of cutting-edge distribution technology.
We maximize value for both rights holders and our investors”
-Christian Victor Bernau, Chief Investment Officer, Indie music rights Ltd
By acquiring the rights to these two landmark albums, Indie music rights’ continues its strategy of empowering rights owners while preserving cultural heritage through effective distribution and creative revitalization. Elokuu’s music, known for blending rap, pop, and Finnish folk influences, will now be positioned for broader recognition across international markets.
Released on April 6, 2012, Hääväki Saapuu marked the debut of Elokuu, achieving remarkable success by peaking at number two on the Finnish Album Chart during its first week of release. The band’s unique sound resonated with Finnish audiences, and Skur 35 is excited to bring this cultural treasure to new listeners, both within Finland and abroad.
A Nordic Focus with Global Potential
This acquisition signifies Indie music rights’ commitment to expanding its footprint in the Nordic music market. While the company's roots are in Norway, the Finnish market presents an exciting opportunity to support independent artists and their legacies. "We are thrilled to welcome the Elokuu catalog into the Indie Music rights family," says Jussi Hautala / Country Manager of Finland. "Elokuu’s sound is deeply rooted in Finnish tradition, but their music has the potential to resonate far beyond the Nordic region. Our goal is to reactivate these albums in new and innovative ways, ensuring they continue to thrive in today’s global music ecosystem."
A Partnership That Retains Artist Involvement
As with all Indie music rights acquisitions, the company is committed to preserving a close relationship with the artists. In the case of Elokuu, Jonas W. Karlsson, the band member, will take on an advisory role within Indie music rights, ensuring the continued respect for Elokuu’s artistic vision as their catalog is revitalized. "Working with Indie music rights allows us to keep our music alive while opening new doors for its future," says Karlsson. "It’s exciting to be part of a partnership that respects the essence of our music while offering new opportunities for growth."
Expanding the Indie music rights Portfolio:
A New Home for Independent Rights Music
Indie music rights’ is actively building its portfolio, focusing on non-English music catalogs that have been historically overlooked by larger music funds. The acquisition of Elokuu’s albums aligns with the company’s strategy to capitalize on the growing demand for global and local music genres. This approach sets Indie music rights’ apart from larger music investment firms, which tend to focus on mainstream, global hits. Indie music rights’ focus is on niche markets with a local yet globalized approach—identifying valuable cultural music that can reach new heights through strategic re-releases, sync placements, and effective royalty management.
